Where and When do we meet?
We will meet at the docks at Marina Pez Vela near the guard house at 6:45 am. Look for the handsome guys or stand around looking lost and we will find you. If you need transportation to the marina please let us know in advance.
What do we need to bring?
Bring sunscreen, hat, polarized sunglasses if you have them, medications you may need (if you suffer from sea sickness take half a Dramamine the night before going out and half the morning of the trip), cameras and enough cash for a tip for the crew and/or payment of your balance. It is OK to bring some fishing tackle or gear you wish to use and we will try to accommodate it if it makes sense to the type of fish we are hunting. On all trips snacks, water and beer are included and on 3/4 and full-day trips lunch is also included.
Will we need a fishing license?
Yes, you are required to purchase a Costa Rica fishing license. The cost is $15 cash and they are available at the marina before we leave. The licenses are valid for 10 days if you are fishing on a multi-day trip.
Can I pay for my trip at the dock?
Sure. Your trip needs to be paid in full in advance and we do accept payment at the dock before you leave. We accept cash and major credit cards. You can also pay in advance if you wish and we take Pay Pal.
How much should we tip the crew?
The customary tip is from 20 to 30 percent of the trip depending on how good of a job you feel the crew did for you…please don’t base it upon whether or not you caught fish or how many as this is a major form of income for our captains and mates. This incentivizes them to do their absolute best for your success.
Can we keep the fish we catch?
Absolutely! These are your fish and we recommend taking the fillets to your hotel or favorite restaurant where they will turn them in to a delicious feast. You may be able to bring them home with you as well, but you will need to find a place to vacuum pack and freeze the meat. Your boxes or coolers need to be labeled “sport-caught, frozen fish” and please…No Dry Ice. Finally if you don’t want any or all of your fish, your crew (and owners, too) would be glad to take it home to their families. We release all Marlin, Sailfish and Roosterfish, but your mate will fillet and chill any other such as Tuna, Wahoo, Dorado, Snapper, etc…also, let us know if you want any ultra-fresh shashimi after a catch.
Is taxidermy for our trophy available?
Yes, we contract with Gray’s Taxidermy to handle and create your trophy mounts and artwork to remember your great Costa Rica fishing adventure. Your crew will have all of the necessary forms after your catch.
Do you have Reel Deal shirts, hats and other goodies available?
We sure do! You will be able to purchase gobs of schwag on the boat depending on availability.
What about the boat?
What species will we catch?
Depending on what type of charter you book, any particular species you want to pursue and the time of year, you may catch:
